Joshua Samuel

CEO of the General Partner

Joshua is a veteran greenfield energy developer who works collaboratively with governments, municipalities, First Nations, utilities and investors to build critical infrastructure for civic renewal and sustainable development. Joshua is passionate about creating cleaner, stronger, more inclusive and more resilient communities, with a particular interest helping municipalities and First Nations reduce their reliance on carbon-intensive electricity and heating. Joshua has a proven track record originating investment in new, revenue-generating energy projects where significant economic and environmental benefits accrue to local residents and businesses.

Before becoming founding partner of Northeast Midstream LP in 2013, Joshua was Vice-President of Strategy and Business Development for Atlantic Hydrogen Inc., a clean energy firm held by Emera Inc., and a technology transfer manager at the University of New Brunswick, where he forged strategic alliances with large energy players, governments and academic institutions. Joshua is an award-winning entrepreneur and writer, who looks forward to finally completing his PhD dissertation in field of science and technology studies. Until then, Joshua enjoys long-distance trail running and alpine ski touring.

Harry Samuel

Founding Partner

A multi-disciplined leader with 30 years of experience in regulated financial services, Harry brings a thorough understanding of complex business processes as well as expertise in global capital markets and macroeconomics. He was CEO of RBC Investor & Treasury Services and CEO of RBC Capital Markets in Europe for a total of eight years, having previously developed and managed several global lines of business. He now advises a range of businesses across the finance and investment sectors on critical strategic issues and financial transactions.

Harry is known for his analytical skills, his integrity and his exceptional drive – always hands-on with a focus on execution. He applies the same energy and dedication to his personal life, completing ten consecutive London Marathons, to benefit The Children’s Trust, and three ascents of Mont Blanc, the highest summit in Western Europe. Harry and Joshua are brothers.

Pat Convery

PE, Owner’s Engineer

Pat brings extensive engineering credentials and 35 years of experience, much of it focused on energy infrastructure. He is currently President and Chief Engineer at Cornerstone Energy Services, Northeast’s contract engineer. He is also passionate about supporting local economic development and regeneration, having served as a Director for the Shrewsbury Development Corporation – alongside his day job – for the past 17 years.

Pat’s career spans a range of highly regarded engineering positions at firms such as Hess LNG, Coler & Colantonio, Stone & Webster and Algonquin Gas Transmission.

Ville-Valtteri Helenius

Program Director

Ville is a senior business change-management professional, with more than 20 years of experience specializing in large-business program management and regulatory transformation. He has in-depth expertise in executing large strategic initiatives in the financial and infrastructure sectors.

Past engagements include RBC, Deutsche Bank, Scotiabank, Lloyds Banking Group and ING.

William (Bill) Alcamo

JD, Contracting and Commercial Affairs

Bill is a business lawyer, with over 40 years of experience providing advice regarding negotiation of strategic alliances, partnerships and other joint ventures together with their collateral business agreements. He spent his entire legal career at the Toronto law firm Goodmans LLP, retiring from the firm in 2017.

Bill is now active as a consultant, working with entrepreneurs, corporations and shareholders on corporate and commercial transactional matters. Bill has a passion for golf and is a 40-year student of Shotokan Karate.

Chris Benedetti

Government and First Nations Relations

With experience in both federal and provincial governments, Chris has an extensive background in strategic communications and public affairs. In his role as Principal at Sussex Strategy Group, where he heads the Energy and Environment Practice, he focuses on the policy and political imperatives that are the basis for decisions in the areas of planning and procurement. A man of deep commitment to civic duty and social responsibility, Chris is an active participant in local community affairs and is a past president of Horizons for Youth, one of Toronto’s largest youth shelters.

He is also well regarded in the energy sector, speaking at conferences and currently serving as Director of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario.

David Goldberg

CPA, CA, Financial Controller

Highly driven and a natural entrepreneur, David focuses on providing small businesses and start-ups with outsourced finance, accounting, budgeting, reporting and financing support. At Northeast, he is turning this experience toward identifying and supporting financially viable, operationally successful infrastructure projects. Prior to completing his MBA he had a robust background in accounting, working at Kraft Berger LLP.

David has also worked at biotechnology firm CCRM, where he gained direct in-house finance and operations experience. David loves playing hockey and baseball and attending live sporting events and concerts, and he tries never to miss an episode of Jeopardy!.

Yash Sanghai

Associate

A project manager since 2013 working in natural gas and electricity infrastructure, Yash is highly driven, current with the latest trends in the energy industry as well as applicable codes and industry standards.

Yash also has expertise in techno-economic analysis of hydrogen fuel cell systems used as an electricity storage technology for intermittent renewable energy.
